Old Kyle Farm is located on the Isle of Skye, just minutes from the famous Skye Bridge.
Although a car makes it easier to visit, we are also close to public transport links.
We are just over the water from Kyle of Lochalsh train station with services from Inverness and Citylink buses running from Glasgow via Fort William.
We are on the hill overlooking the picturesque village of Kyleakin with its
crumbling castle, Caisteal Maol, working harbour and tidal waterway, The Obbe (An t’Obbe). A short walk in to the village gives the visitor access to cafes, pubs and a shop as well as boat trips and the Brightwater Centre.
The famous Skye Bridge is well worth a walk over to appreciate the views up Loch Alsh and the Sound of Raasay. It also takes you to Eilean Ban, home of Gavin Maxwell author of “Ring of Bright Water”, with its lighthouse and otter hide.
Forestry Commission tracks lead up just behind the house to Cnoc a’ Mhadaidhruaidh (Hill of the Fox), with fantastic views over the Island, the Sound of Raasay and the mainland. Those feeling more adventurous might The Skye Bridge and Kyleakin The Red Cuillins from the viewpoint Eilean Ban with Torridon in the distance Sunset over Raasay follow a map, but no paths up over the hillside to LochNaBeiste (Loch of the Beast) where it is said a Water Cow dwells.
Or further still to SgurrNaCoinnich and BeinnNaCaillich (Hill of the Witch) for outstanding views.
Skye is famous for its impressive scenery. The Black Cuillin is probably the most intimidating but accessible mountain range in Scotland. Visible from almost everywhere on Skye, you can climb or simply watch the clouds form over this multi Monroe monster. Boat trips can take you from Elgol, right to the heart of the mountains, Loch Coruisk.
Further North, the Geological forms of the Trotternis Peninsula provide backdrops for film and car advert alike.
For wild swimmers, the Fairy Pools are great for a splash in perfectly clear mountain pools and waterfalls. For those that prefer to stand on the shore, you can skim stones off a
multitude of beaches from Ord on the Sleat Peninsula to Coral Beach in Waternish.
We are positioned perfectly for access to the rest of the
Highlands. There are many sights within easy access.
